Stafford

The Stafford office joined QBE in 2005 as part the Minibusplus/MBP business acquisition. It has operated on a UK-wide broker development strategy since 1993 and that still continues today. Its business model is based on the same ethos as all the other National offices in terms of quality, access to underwriters and to offer products that brokers are looking for.

The key differentiator for Stafford is in the way that broker solutions are delivered and the use of technology will always be at the forefront of that development.

Attention to service and long term profitability through quality underwriting is absolutely fundamental and looking to use cost saving through innovation leading technology is a key theme. This lends itself to develop smaller, package orientated business where a higher volume and turnover of both policy count and premium will be a key feature of delivery to brokers.

‘Since 2005 significant investment has been made into Stafford operations and more is planned for the future. There is an extensive broker database of over 3,000 brokers which is constantly updated to remain fresh through broker questionnaires as part of the recent TOBA update exercise or attending events and analysing the QBE stand visitors to the recent BIBA 2009 exhibition. 

Minibus, taxi & small fleet business is still at the centre of motor developments and in May of this year the new Business Portfolio – a broader commercial insurance product range was launched.

The Business Portfolio range will replace the Icon book of both broker and direct business through the proceeding 12 months. Technology is a key component of its service delivery and in tandem with a new team of underwriters, based in Stafford, was recruited to meet our long term aspirations. This was followed by an exhaustive campaign to choose an external insurance broker software developer (Acturis) that could deliver IT solutions that would not only meet the needs of the QBE back office infrastructure in Stafford but is compatible with brokers who use the Acturis system themselves.

It is envisaged that we will add new products as the wider business recognises the potential of this distribution delivery option.’
